Here in this tenses when we want to change the direct speech into indirect speech , we have to follow some important rules,the rules are in details below.


1) when the reporting verb is in past form then the reported speech transffered into another tense just like the given formula.


2) If the reporting verb is in present or future form then the reported speech will not be changed into another tenses.It belongs in same tenses.


When in The Tense of a  Direct Speech of a speech Change into others tense in Indirect Speech?

(1) If the reporting verb is in Present tense then the reported speech is not change into another tense.

In this example 'said to' is a reporting verb and it is change into 'asked'.


To remove comma (,) an inverted commas("..")  used linker is 'If'.

When the direct reported speech is in present continuous,then the reported speech transffered into indirect speech.reported speech transffered from present continuous to past continuous

Past Continuous


when you are going to change direct speech into indirect speech, then the reported apeech change from past continuous to past perfect continuous.

1) Ganga said to sadhu,"Did you singing"? ( direct speech)

Ganga asked sadhu if he had been singing. (indirect speech)

2) Radhika said,"was he doing this job"? ( direct speech)

Radhika said if he had been doing that job. (indirect speech)







Future Continuous


To change the narration in future continuous reported speech change into indirect speech from direct speech by adding 'Would be' in place of shall be or will be.

Present Perfect


In narration change the reported speech is in present perfect in direct speech it will be changed into past perfect tense in indirect speech.

1) Sumita says, " Have you done your sum"? ( direct speech)

Sumita asks/says if he had done his sum. (indirect speech)






2) Rani said to bani,"has he killed the snake"? (direct speech)

Rani asked bani if he had killed the snake. (indirect speech)



Past Perfect


when the reported speech is in past perfect tense in direct speech, then the tense will be transffered into same format of past perfect tense.

Repoted speech belongs in same tense not transffered into other tense.

1) Mani said to puja,"had he finished her duty"? (direct speech)

Mani asked puja if she had finished her duty. (indirect speech)

Future Perfect


To change direct speech into indirect speech in future perfect tense, the reported speech changed into indirect speech from direct  by adding 'Would have' in place of will have or shall have.
